When she became pregnant, even though Tabitha saw signs that he “used women in the church,” she married him anyway, not wanting to have another child out of wedlock. The Christian Post did a story on Taylor’s ex-wife, Tabitha Taylor, who says she got involved with Taylor after becoming a new Christian. Yohe says, “When you first get with him, he asks you for naked pictures, inappropriate pictures… If you even think about getting mad or you want to break up, (or) if you expose him, he’s going to send those pictures out.” When she threatened to expose him, he threatened her, telling her that she would get cancer if she attacked his ministry. Yohe describes Taylor’s behavior as controlling and says that he cheated on her, also buying expensive gifts for other women. Yohe says that during their relationship, Taylor bought her extravagant gifts, such as a Jaguar and $900 shoes. All words were printed in an artistic font: the letters had short sharp serifs and symmetric irregular edges. The ball on the logo symbolized the sun used in the city emblems. The three-sided shield represented the largest districts of the San Francisco Bay Area: Oakland, San Francisco, and San Jose. The rest of the details remained the same. On the 16th of January, 1974, Mandaric announced the San Jose Earthquakes football club’s creation. This name was socially criticized as the town was located near the San Andreas seismically active fault. The readers had sent their versions, and general manager Dick Berg approved the name Earthquake. The local newspaper San Jose Mercury News financed the naming bidding. In their opinion, San Jose was not so prestigious to mention it. The League Commissioner Phil Woosnam and president Lamar Hunt made a trade-off upon one condition: the new team of the Bay Area NASL shall be named after San Francisco. The reference says “There are people who weep, become sad and excited watching the puppets, though they know they are merely carved pieces of leather manipulated and made to speak. Ardjuna Wiwaha was composed by a court poet of King Airlangga who ruled from 1035 to 1049 CE. A famous reference of the shadow play appears in Ardjuna Wiwaha (“The Meditation of Arjuna”), curiously echoing Plato’s discourse on illusion. ![]() The word wayang is also mentioned several times in court literatures written between the eleventh and fifteenth centuries at various kingdoms in east Java. The second copper plate, from 907 CE, describes dances, epic recitations, and a shadow play performance. The first copper plate, dated 840 CE, mentions the names of six officials who were either performers themselves or who supervised musicians, clowns, and possibly wayang performers. The earliest surviving records of wayang (Indonesian shadow puppetry) on copper plates dated 840 and 907 CE referred to shadow plays and performers. Arjuna and Buto Cakil in a Wayang performance in Semarang, Central Java Another difference between the Indonesian shadow puppetry we know today and its older forms is that, while the Chinese shadow plays are considered a form of opera in China, the Indonesian shadow puppetry has become its own art form, separate from the theater in Java. One example of this is that although the Indian shadow puppet performances either have very few or no musical instruments at all, shadow plays in Indonesia are accompanied by extensive ensembles of gamelan music. ![]() However, the present Indonesian shadow puppetry is so much more elaborate than the ancient traces of this art in India, leading many to maintain that it was an autochthonous Indonesian tradition. The Andhra Sarwaswamu states that Indian kings who invaded Java (now part of Indonesia) in the sixth century introduced shadow puppetry to the island. Shadow puppetry is so embraced by many different cultures that each culture seems to have their own history and legend of the first shadow play performance- therefore claiming it, or at least different versions of it, as their own. It has a long history in China, India, Nepal, and Southeast Asia, as well as in Turkey and Greece, surviving everything from war and famine to cultural revolutions. The art of shadow puppetry, or shadow play, is an ancient form of storytelling which utilizes flat figures (shadow puppets) to create cut-out figures which are then held between a source of light and a translucent screen. In fact, picture recitations might have been performed in Buddhist temples during the Tang dynasty (618-907 CE). However, Buddhism may have played a big role in the introduction of shadow puppetry in China. Although this theory is feasible and intriguing, the popularity of the Indian epics Mahabharata and Ramayana in Southeast Asia suggests that it was the Hindu culture, instead of the Buddhist culture, that accompanied the shadow puppetry from India. At the 1999 Association for Asian Studies Annual Meeting, a paper was presented which states that missionary Buddhist priests took the art of shadow puppetry from India to both Indonesia and China during the Buddhist expansion from the sixth through ninth centuries. ![]() ![]() While that’s quite a bit of content by Super Mario standards, the fun doesn’t end there. ![]() ![]() I previously had a Founders Edition account that provided access to less-powerful card types ( GTX 1080 and, on occasion, GTX 2060) and was familiar with the games' performance on my local RTX 3050. In other words, I'm a PC gaming enthusiast living with a pedestrian mix of hardware-potentially just the type GeForce Now is targeting. My personal graphics card is an RTX 3050, a budget-minded model that couldn't hope to hit 60 fps at 1440p on ultra or max settings on our test games. I didn't dig much into Reflex mode, the latency-reducing setting aimed at competitive games like Apex Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Destiny 2, and others ( The Verge review leans into that aspect heavily). I tend toward single-player games, not twitchy multiplayer shooters. My monitor's refresh rate only ("only") goes to 144 Hz (i.e., 144 fps). What follows is a first impression of the service, more like a test drive than a full review covering every facet. Test-driving a monster GPU across the Northeast But if you have wider bandwidth on your Internet connection than in budgeting for a single piece of a gaming PC, or want to test the waters of max-spec PC gaming, GeForce Now Ultimate is mighty intriguing. Not everybody has the high-refresh monitor, or the interest in GeForce Now's particular games library, to need the Ultimate tier. When playing on these lower-res or lower-refresh screens, an Ultimate stream trades impressive fidelity for stability. I almost felt bad when Cyberpunk 2077 on an Nvidia Shield benchmarked 90 fps at 4K on my 60 Hz TV (save those extra frames for lean times!). I logged a few impressive-looking battles in Marvel's Midnight Suns, sitting on a couch with an iPad and a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. I got to play Hitman 3 on a MacBook Air (through a monitor) at rates higher than 60 frames per second, at medium-to-high graphics. That's especially true if you want the flexibility to bring your games to screens outside your main gaming system. That might be a steep price tag for a service that mostly makes you buy your games, but given the 4080's $1,200 price, the rent-versus-buy question is worth considering at this level. It replaces the previous RTX 3080 option with the next generation's chipset for the same price ($20 per month, $99 for six months). It's easy to lay at least the same kind of praise on the new Ultimate tier. Ultimate streaming can also be "better than local," such as when it lets you stream a AAA, ray-traced game on a low-powered laptop, tablet, or TV with no console attached.Īrs had previously described our GeForce Now 3080 experience as "dreamy" and called the performance "a white-hot stunner that rivals the computing power you can muster" with the same RTX 3080 card in your PC. ![]() If I hadn't been hyper-conscious of frame numbers and hiccups, I could have been tricked into thinking the remote 4080 rig was local. I tested out the Ultimate tier, powered by Nvidia's RTX 4080 "SuperPODs, " for a week on a server set up for reviewer early access. It’s usually indistinguishable from playing the game locally.Cloud-based gaming service GeForce Now's new Ultimate tier is rolling out today, promising a series of adjectives about game streaming that might have seemed impossible just a few years ago: high-resolution, ray-traced, AI-upscaled, low-latency, high-refresh-rate, and even competition-ready. Today, GeForce Now Ultimate can handle up to 4K at 120fps with typical network latency between 18 and 25 milliseconds, and without noticeable video artifacts. I’ve used GeForce Now since launch and remember what it was like then: only 1080p resolution up to 60fps, with sometimes noticeable video artifacts due to compression, and network latency of 25 to 35 milliseconds. ![]() The overall latency and reliability of the service left me impressed. I experienced a small handful of hiccups in my testing, though none lasted more than the blink of an eye. These figures are not too hard to achieve over Ethernet or a modern Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6 connection, but need to be rock-solid, as any minor hiccup will cause a hitch in the video stream. Nvidia’s built-in connection benchmark asks for a packet loss of less than one percent and latency below 40 milliseconds. Packet loss and latency are another concern. ![]() |
